Milk

1 “Therefore, rid yourselves of all malice and all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and slander of every kind. 2 Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation, 3 now that you have tasted that the Lord is good.” (1 Peter 2:1-3; NIV)

At a men’s Bible study last week we focused on these three verses. I was trying to think through how someone can avoid all of the bad things mentioned in the first verse and develop the “craving for spiritual milk” referenced in the second verse. The pieces fit together as I read the third verse and then went backwards.

Step 1 – Taste that the Lord is good, which will lead to the second step.

Step 2 – Crave spiritual milk, which will guide and help me with the third step.

Step 3 – Rid myself of negative, self-centered characteristics. If I’m struggling, I probably just need to return to Step 1 and look at some reminders that the Lord is good.

I think this is a good approach for evangelism too. Help others see that the Lord is good. That’s a meaningful place to start.
