Church Event Idea

Have you ever participated in a Walk Thru the Bible event? If so, I would love to hear your thoughts about it, especially if you have participated in a Caminata Bíblica event – the same thing, but in Spanish.

Many years ago, I attended Ecola Bible School in Cannon Beach, Oregon. We had two instructors each week covering various topics. One of the standout classes in my memory was a Walk Thru the Old Testament. The experience stands out because the unique learning approach unique helped us cover a large quantity of material over a relatively short period of time and have fun in the process.

The live events are engaging. Everyone in the audience not only gets a big picture overview of the Old or New Testament, but they learn a series of motions and key words to make it enjoyable and shockingly easy to look at the whole big story. At Ecola, the lessons spanned a week, but church events are typically done in just half of a day.

A presentation at church a few weeks ago prompted the idea to explore the possibility of arranging a Walk Thru the Bible event here in Fort Morgan. The small dream is to engage the Hispanic churches in the area to have them come together for an event in Spanish. The bigger dream is to offer it in both Spanish and English on the same day, with all of the participants with both groups coming together for a meal.

I’ve been engaging a few different churches with the idea. So far, things look promising. I’m excited about this possibility. I think the impact could be significant. It will be challenging to make it happen, which is probably good, because that means I won’t be able to make it happen on my own. It will have to be a collaborative endeavor. Again – a good thing. Please pray that the Lord will make clear which way to go, and that I will follow.

Yes! I learned WTB motions as a child and have taught them to my children as well. I haven't participated in an event to learn, but I think it's a valuable activity and would encourage anyone to spend a day in fellowship learning. Go for it!

Sounds great actually. No, never been to one, but Judie has 'walked' me through how Daniel Mackey lays things all out in his extensive set of video and study guides known as "The Bible Project". The first adjustment he makes to your understanding is to use the order of Bible books as defined by the Jewish rabbis. This starts you off understanding the OT in a more chronological order. I found that to be a useful hint that my parents never taught. I'm one of those who was raised on the Bible, by a pastor and his wife, so the information is all native to me, but any approach to that knowledge that makes it fun, cool and revealing is…
