We’ve made it to the end of birthday month! All three of our kids have November birthdays, which always makes for an interesting month with Thanksgiving also in the mix. A focal point for our family birthdays is getting to choose all of the meals for the day. A few highlights… Zarya (now 10) chose fajitas for dinner. Devin (now 6) chose to end his string of meals with a delicious chocolate cake with peanut butter frosting. Jerod (now 8) chose pumpkin pancakes with homemade applesauce for breakfast.
In this Thanksgiving season, I’m thankful for incredible people in our lives. Friendships seem especially important to us right now during this interesting phase of big transitions. We have amazing friendship and support here in Pennsylvania, much of which began through our local church family. Traveling to the West Coast in October showed us that even though we have not lived in that area for a long time, the relationships there are still holding strong. And then there are all of the special friendships in other places – friends from Michigan who visit us every year on Thanksgiving weekend, long-lasting friendships in the small town of Curtis, Nebraska, where I lived for a short while after college in the early 2000s, friendships that still continue in East Africa, and the list goes on. Thank you, Lord, for friendship.
We are definitely noticing and appreciating the special things around our current home in Western Pennsylvania as we walk through our last holiday season here. Will we ever see the fall colors as brilliantly as what we experienced this year? When is the next time we will cut our own Christmas tree? How many services do we have left attending our church here? The college basketball game that required a whopping three minutes of travel sure was fun!
We are finding good ways to enjoy the current season and are looking forward to the next one!
