Yesterday I shared at a church about my IAFR ministry plans and highlighted a few verses in Matthew 2 – the end of the Christmas story. What happened right after the wise men left Jesus and his parents? Jesus became a refugee himself! As a baby, he was whisked away by his parents to Egypt. One of his first experiences was fleeing to another country to avoid life-threatening circumstances. It might not be the most peaceful and joyful detail to reflect on during the holiday season, but it is significant to realize some of the difficult things he experienced.
"After the wise men were gone, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream. 'Get up! Flee to Egypt with the child and his mother,' the angel said. 'Stay there until I tell you to return, because Herod is going to search for the child to kill him.' That night Joseph left for Egypt with the child and Mary, his mother, and they stayed there until Herod’s death." Matthew 2:13-15a (NLT)
